Boomerang is a comedy drama about two young women. Holly and Mauve are now in their mid twenties. As teenagers, they were best friends, inseparable and unable to imagine their lives apart. But they’ve not spoken for three years. In an attempt to get her best friend back, Mauve invites Holly for dinner and she agrees. But on the evening of the dinner, their personal history unravels and the past forces them to confront the uncomfortable truth. What is it that creates friendship and then tears us apart? Boomerang uncovers the ever-changing perceptions of adulthood, mother daughter relationships and, most profoundly, the loss of a friendship.
Madeleine and Ivana are a theatrical comedy writing duo who met at the University of Bristol whilst both reading Drama. Their work has been performed at The Park Theatre (Bites and Scratches 2017) and the Arcola Theatre Studio 1. Their writing focuses on exploring the human state of dissatisfaction and the bizarre ways in which this can play out in the everyday. Boomerang’s process has been very personal; the writers themselves are best friends writing a play about friendship. It relies on them sharing their fears and vulnerabilities and enabling them to become funny before they become sad.
