Josie Appleby (b.1991, Hackney, London) lives and works just outside of London. She is studying on the Turps Correspondence Course (2024-2025) and later this year at The Royal Drawing School’s Intensive Term. Recent selected group shows include: The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (London 2024), The Green and Stone Summer Exhibition (London 2024). Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (London 2024), The London Art Fair (London 2025) and Hypha Studios ‘Split’ (Wrexham 2025). “We are all filled with a longing for the wild. There are few culturally sanctioned antidotes for this yearning. We are taught to feel shame for such desires. We grew our hair long and used it to hide our feelings. But the shadow of Wild Woman still lurks behind us during our days and in our nights…” -Women who run with the wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes I am interested in seeing the world through a creaturely gaze looking for connections to natures transient qualities. Submerged in bountiful islands heightening my senses and observing moments of reflective stillness where delicate but powerful connections are made.
