Liza Kelly is a Dublin-based re-emerging artist working mostly in drawing and printmaking. Her subject matter explores daily experiences and objects through a colourful mix of observation, memory and imagination. Liza uses many approaches in her work – figuration, interior studies, still life, landscape and references from art history. Printmaking is an important part of the artist’s practice – the limitations, imperfections and unpredictability of print add to the final image. Liza is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland. She is a graduate of the Royal Drawing School (London), TU Dublin, and NCAD (Dublin). She is a recipient of the Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award.

She exhibits regularly in Ireland and internationally, most recently at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (London, 2023 & 2024), Platforms Project (Athens, 2023 & 2024) and Blue Shop Galleries (London, 2024). Her work is held in private collections in Europe, Asia and the USA. These works form part of an ongoing series of monotypes exploring the artist’s urban and domestic surroundings. Observational drawings and drawings from memory and imagination are the basis for the monotypes, which transform into new images via the print process. These monotypes have been produced using a direct (drawing) method and built up with multiple plates to layer colour and marks to create each image. Using this method it is possible to also produce a monotype ‘ghost print’ using the residue of ink left on the plate. These ghost prints result in subtle images, some of which have been enhanced with hand-painted gouache highlights. The majority of the works are produced on a selection of Japanese Awagami Factory papers. Each of these images is a unique work.
