Kristina Wheeat is a birdwatcher and wildlife artist based in Varese, Italy. She completed her degree in graphic design in 2017, and has since developed a passion for book illustration, printmaking, and later nature conservation. She mixes her artistic practice with volunteering in nature reserves, bird banding. Kristina’s artistic practice goes beyond simple representation. Each piece is a result of careful study, drawing from her personal exploration of nature and her volunteering in nature reserves. Through her work, Kristina seeks to convey the mysterious and serene essence of the natural world. I draw the natural world around us, a world full of hidden wonders and secrets. My process begins with careful observation, as I seek to explore the intricacies of nature that often go unnoticed. Through drawing, I deepen my understanding, capturing the delicate details and softness of the natural world with the soothing rhythm of a pencil. My work responds to an inner child, one that is free to experience the world as it was meant to be—curious, open, and full of awe. I believe curiosity is one of our most important qualities, sparking the excitement of discovery and the joy of exploration. Through my art, I aim to show that nature has much to teach us, if we take the time to truly see it.
