Born in 1995, Frederick Terpstra is an artist who lives between Zurich and Paris. Of Australian, Dutch and English origin, he devotes himself exclusively to drawing and draws his inspiration from the different cultures he has discovered, exploring human behaviour and practices in public spaces, often influenced by contemporary technology. Ever since he was a child, he has been fascinated by the possibility of representing the world around him using his imagination, as well as observation in situ. His grandfather passed on his passion for art to him. He began by drawing comics, manga and landscapes sketched on holiday, before moving on to portraits, and then to more complex compositions depicting everyday life.

Frederick Terpstra is represented by the Alex Schlesinger gallery in Switzerland. He has exhibited at the Zurich Art Salon and won the ‘Arising Artist’ prize awarded by the Society of Graphic Fine Art in London. "My work shows the behaviour of humans in public spaces and in everyday life, which is sometimes linked to the influences of today's technology. Through my drawings, I also want to highlight the space of the background and its importance in people's lives. The background symbolises their environments, their pasts and that mysterious effect of life, where the future has yet to be written."
