Angus (b.1998) is a multidisciplinary artist and musician based in London. He graduated from The Glasgow School of Art with 2020 and in 2024 completed the Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School. He works with drawing, animation, kinetic sculpture and performance. His work moves between introspective elements and an attempt to respond contemporary socio-political conditions, where a central reference point is the urban environment of London. He has exhibited internationally and has been invited to perform on BBC Radio 6 and Glastonbury Festival 2024. Angus Macdonald is a multi-disciplinary artist and musician based in London. He creates immersive installations, using New Media, sound, hand drawn and computer generated animation, found objects and drawing. Throughout his work, he explores creation and destruction, the body, and the politics and poetics of space - where the urban environment of London is a central reference point. Angus is interested in layering digital and analogue processes in order to modulate our normal ways of experiencing these media. A central part of his practise involves the creation of large-scale and hand drawn animations, completed over long durations of time (1 - 2 years), that are then combined with interactive technology. Drawing upon the tradition of improvised performance, these animations move between a predetermined framework / rule and free-improvised elements. Through rendering the films into interactive environments, the works are fragmented pictorially and temporally, recovering the non-linearity of the picture. His process involves being receptive to unconscious stimuli and an introspective exploration, revealing personal events and emotions through encoded imagery. As such, the imagery often moves toward the dreamlike and magical. At the same time, his work aims to articulate a political and social critique, responding to contemporary events and news.
