Lois Wallace (b. Manchester) studied at The Slade School of Art after achieving a First Class BA Hons in Fine Art Painting at Coventry Polytechnic. Following her post graduate Higher Diploma at the Slade she was awarded the Cheltenham painting Fellowship. Recent solo exhibitions include Silent fire PS Mirabel gallery, Manchester (2022). Perfect Day International project space Birmingham (2019). Recent selected group shows include The New Light prize touring exhibition (2023-24). The Royal Academy of Arts, London Summer show (2015, 2016, 2017), the ING Discerning Eye and the Columbia Threadneedle competition where she was awarded a finalist prize (2018). She was selected for the Shenzhen International Biennial, Jinling Art Museum, China touring exhibition (2015-16). She has exhibited at the Raab Gallery, Berlin since 2007. She has won numerous awards in competitions and scholarships. Her work is in public and private collections in Europe, New Zealand, Miami and the UK. The paintings examine the theme of protection amid disintegration, uncertainty, and vulnerability. Through the gradual accumulation of thin layers of transparent colour, the painted surface emanates a sense of light and illumination from within. The contrast of light and dark, beauty and unease, forms a narrative that is both familiar and unsettling, yet offers a sense of hope. The works reflect the sublime and resonate with the complexities of our current era.
