Sarah Hill (b. 1978) is a British artist based in Essex. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Honours degree in Fashion Design. Throughout her career, she has held various positions, including senior designer, label owner, and creative director. Her passion for fashion and design is evident in her work, which has been part of private collections in the UK and Europe since 2013. Hill's art is influenced by her love of late 19th-century art and contemporary culture. She primarily works with soft pastels and oils, focusing on themes of femininity, race, color, and form. Her representations of selfhood as a mixed-race woman reflect the complexities of her identity in today's society. This collection of works explores beauty as a means of subverting the realities and emotions of the subjects. Her use of pastels allows her to create a truthful flow of energy that feels almost conversational, permeating the paper. Naturally curious, she is invested in capturing those fleeting moments between subjects, striving to depict human emotions over mere form. The result is a continuous interplay between representational figuration and delicate abstraction.
