Yifeng Liao is an artist whose work explores the interplay of light, memory, and perception. She earned a BA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing an MA in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts. Inspired by natural spaces, her work captures fleeting moments of tranquility, using layered coloured pencil to create textured, atmospheric compositions. Through a sensitive approach to light and space, her work invites viewers into a dreamlike realm of introspection and emotional depth.

"In today’s highly modernized world, overwhelmed by negative news and anxiety, my recent works are deeply inspired by my genuine sensations and memories of natural spaces, aiming to capture fleeting moments that offer an escape, guiding the viewer back to a sense of inner peace. In my paintings, light is more than just a visual element — it becomes an emotional language, evoking warmth, tranquility, and depth, inviting the viewer into a peaceful, dreamlike realm. For me, painting is not simply about achieving a visual outcome; it is a journey through time, space, and perception. Throughout the creative process, I immerse myself in the tactile sensations and the shifting temperatures of light and space, layering coloured pencils onto paper repeatedly. This technique allows me to create a rich, textured surface that mirrors the subtle complexities of light and its interaction with the environment. Ultimately, my work goes beyond representing reality; it transports the viewer to a place of calm and introspection, reconnecting them with the serene balance between humanity and nature that is often lost in our fast-paced world."
