Katie Hindle’s figurative pastel paintings are often populated by female figures, characterized by narrative and symbolic scenes portraying solitary women or women in small intimate groups. Rather than telling specific stories, the paintings are visually and psychologically layered. They express an atmospheric feeling and an interior, emotional and spiritual world through a refined and sensitive colour palette. With a critical nod to art historical traditions, Hindle’s work is in dialogue with past and present perspectives on gender, and the ambiguities of identity. Katie Hindle (b. 1978, Hong Kong) is a UK based artist. She spent a decade working as a lawyer in the City of London. She went on to study and teach at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is also a published author on women, identity and visual culture. Katie has exhibited her work internationally.
